View Full Version : Power vs. Quarter Mile

Okay now I am really confused. I decided to entertain myself and see how much hp and torque I was putting out with the ol Monte last weekend. What I found out is great, (brand-new stock it only put out about 200 hp), but I can’t figure out why my times aren’t better on the quarter mile. Rw hp=478, rw torque=531. :D Now could it be the weight alone that keeps me in the high 12’s. Or do you guys think this could be because of my tranny being (I think the tweaked stock) th350? Up till now I thought it was doing well enough cause it can pop the front wheels off the ground a little off the line, and It can go about 140 before redlining. I do have a posi rear end, a high stall torque converter, and 12-inch wide slicks. :)

what gear are you running . and it would not hurt freshing that 350 new blue clutches , corvette servo . bill younger reprograming kit for the valve body .
what stall are you using .

I’m using an 11 inch 2800 rpm stall, torque converter. Sorry I would have to double-check the ratios. I’m more of an engine guy than a tranny one, so I had the rebuild done for me and don’t remember the fugues off the top of my head. So with some refreshing, do you think the th350 is still a good tranny to stick with?

it's the weight
500lbs can equal >70hp difference needed between cars.
Atleast it sounds like you transfer that weight correctly
Nice car too

I've moved this one over to the drag racing forum. :)

But Chetta, does anyone check this forum? :(
Another thing that I thought of as I drove home last night was, would those new blue clutches make the shifting from just 1st to 2nd bone jarring when simply driving through town? I know as it is I can (on street tires) still get it a little sideways when shifting to second when I’m “driving excessively”. ;)

Actually they do and this was such a good topic I wanted to give this forum more activity. :) Don't worry I left a redirect in the lounge. ;)

I see. I thought you might have hated me and wanted me to have a slow car, or something. ;)

the blue clutches will not effect the shifting its how you reprogram the valve body and whether you use waffle disc or smooth , a properly built 350 should handle 650-700-hp no problem . if you are hitting the rev limiter during shifts it is problably slipping . em me if you want to know more
