I'm gonna try to surprise my girl in a couple of weeks and take her away for the weekend, but I can't figure out what to do/where to go. I kinda thought about a B&B, but I think we need something a little more active than that. I thought about Shreveport, but a casino isn't exactly romantic. I even thought about something like San Fransisco or something, but I think my money would be better spent on a higher end hotel and activities within driving distance(but outside of Dallas) than airfare. So, I need your help. Any suggestions?

I second the San Antonio idea......I love staying at hotels on the Riverwalk! My next suggestion would be renting a condo on the beach down in South Padre or Port Aransas. Both have beautiful beaches...for Texas anyways :yeah:

If you want to party alittle and just hangout. This is a nice place to visit.
You can also chech out NASA while your there.
Joe's Crabshack has a great boat ride also.

Kemah or Galveston would get my vote for that type of thing.
San Antonio is always a blast around the Riverwalk.
Lakehouse on Travis is always fun, but the lake is pretty beat up right now after the rain - I'd probably pass on this one.
Padre is nice, but you know how long of a drive that is... ditto Port Aransas.

also if youre worried about airfare southwest typically has at least a few destinations that are really cheap at a given time. not exactly romantic, but for a short hop to say phoenix or colorado or something it would be so fast/cheap that who really cares

I hadn't thought about Kemah... that's an idea. Padre is too damn far for a short weekend trip(we can't leave til after work Fri). Riverwalk is cool, but we have done that already and I kinda wanted to do something "new". Besides, SA is probably pretty crazy with Cowboys camp going on. I am gonna look and see what kind of airfares I can get, but I'm inside that magical 2 week window where fares go to full price. I'm gonna look at some last minute fares through a couple of sources I have and see what's out there.

i should also mention that if you do consider going to messina hof (b&b, winery, restaurant, etc) youre gonna need 1) your wallet and 2) at least a passing interest in wine bc there isnt shit else to do in that area
