a friend of mine sent me this in a email. i don't usually pass emails along, but i was so impressed by this that i just had to show you guys!!!
Something to think about. I went to snopes and verified it was true ( http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/australia.asp )

--------->Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

A day after a group of mainstream Muslim leaders pledged loyalty to Australia and her Queen at a special meeting with Prime Minister John Howard, he and his Ministers made it clear that extremists would face a crackdown.

Treasurer Peter Costello, seen as heir apparent to Howard, hinted that some radical clerics could be asked to leave the country if they did not accept that Australia was a secular state, and its laws were made by parliament. "If those are not your values, if you want a country which has Sharia law or a theocratic state, then Australia is not for you", he said on national television.

"I'd be saying to clerics who are teaching that there are two laws governing people in Australia: one the Australian law and another, the Islamic law that is false. If you can't agree with parliamentary law, independent courts, democracy, and would prefer Sharia law and have the opportunity to go to another country, which practices it, perhaps, then, that's a better option", Costello said.

Asked whether he meant radical clerics would be forced to leave, he said those with dual citizenship could possibly be asked to move to the other country. Education Minister Brendan Nelson later told reporters that Muslims who did not want to accept local values should "clear off. Basically people who don't want to be Australians, and who don't want to live by Australian values and understand them, well then, they can basically clear off", he said.

Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques. Quote: "IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians."

"However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the 'politically correct' crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Australia." "However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand."

"This idea of Australia being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Australians, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle."

"This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom"

"We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!"

"Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture."

"We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us."

"If the Southern Cross offends you, or you don't like "A Fair Go", then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. By all means, keep your culture, but do not force it on others.

"This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'."

"If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted."

Maybe if we circulate this amongst ourselves, American citizens will find the backbone to start speaking and voting the same truths!!

That is one country I have not had the honor of visiting, have had many friends go there and say its wonderful. One day I do plan on visiting there, infact if it wasnt for their goofy ass gun laws I would love to live there.

to add:
I wish the U.S. would do something like that. Make the idiots coming over here learn the language and follow our rules.

Another great thing about Australia.......A buddy of mine at work used to be in the U.S. Navy. When his ship would pull into an Australian port the women would write thier names and phone numbers on tennis balls and throw them on deck for a hookup later that night. Now thats what I call supporting the troops. :yup:

Rich.

Good for Australia! BTW, did you know they fine you for not voting? 96% voter turnout :funny:

About fucking time a western nation finally said ENOUGH IS ENOUGH... too bad it will be a while before anyone here says that... if ever.

um maybe I am confused but are you saying Australia is a western nation? If so you need to retake Geography in school. They are in the Eastern Hemisphere.

If you mean that its about time that we need to start doing it, ok I agree with that. and there are western countries that do that, mexico is one. You cannot be a citizen in mexico unless you can speek the language and have an established job there are a few more rules but not sure off the top of my head.

Hey he has an IQ of 146 , I'd believe him if he says it's a western nation. :funny:

BTW ; That's a great speech or whatever it was. Australia is pretty cool except about the gun laws and I have heard they are very strict on driving, registration of vehicles, and fines are outrageous if caught speeding etc.
However I can just about promise you the enforcement can't possibly be worse than Plano is. :funny: I once got pulled over 3 times in the same week for a sticker that was out and all i drive is 12 miles each way to work through plano in that vehicle.

Autralia, while in the Eastern Hemisphere, is still a "Western" nation, in that they have a "westernized" culture. Many places in the other hemisphere are considered Western. In fact, the West originally refered to Western Europe and any other land that shared in their culture and way of life, including America. Nihil wasn't saying that Australia was literally in the Western Hemisphere.

Go back to school and learn sum histry! ;)

i also looked into new zealand. i found that you can't even move there (only visit) after you are 51 or so (they don't want to support old retires like florida). citizenship is very hard to get too....but it sure is pretty....with lots of fast cars;)

I found the statements kind of contradictory...

I guess it's from associating secular government and education, which may not be the case in australia. I'm sorry I don't agree with most of what was posted, but I guess we can all agree to disagree. I really can't see why one can't practice their religion/language/culture in a foreign country w/o offending anyone. I do agree if some religious/cultural beliefs break the law of a particular country, then said ppl have to be judged accordingly...whether it's an American smoking pot in Singapore, or a muslim beating his wife in the US.

On a sidenote, i've been looking towards moving to Australia, new zealand, or Canada after finishing a masters here. It just seems there's plenty of opportunity for growth and little job competition.

You cannot be a citizen in mexico unless you can speek the language and have an established job there are a few more rules but not sure off the top of my head.

Not really
Article 30th of the mexican constitution states that:
by birth:
Those born in mexico, regardless of the parents' nationality.
Those born outside of mexico, from Mexican parents, whether be by mother or father.
Those born outside of mexico, from naturalize mexican parents.
Those born on mexican ships or airplanes, whether military or merchant.

As far as naturalization goes, you're partly right, you need to have lived 1, 2, or 5 years, in mexico depending on the situation, need to speak the language, and need to know some history of mexico. Pretty much the same thing the US asks for as far as citizenship to foreigners.

http://www.sre.gob.mx/english/services/nationality/default_nationality.htm
Oddly enough, Mexico allows dual or even multiple citizenships, allowing say US citizens that were born to Mexican parents to have mexican citizenship as well, w/o having to renounce their previous citizenship like the US does. This only applies to those Mexican citizens by birth however.

There's also a distinction between citzenship and nationality. You may have Mexican nationality, but you are not a citizen until you are 18 years old, and have an honest way of living.
