View Full Version : Was The Attack On Pearl Harbor An Attack On America?

Mir and I are engaged in debate (big shocker there...)

Mir claims that Pearl Harbor, because it was not a state at the time, does not count as an attack on America. I contend that it was our military and our military bases that were attacked that it was indeed an attack on America. I further argue that Hawaii, though not a state, was even considered American soil at that time as Guam and Puerto Rico are today due to the "Territory" staus they all had or have. Also, people born in Hawaii, Guam and Puerto Rico when they are/were territories are granted American citizenship, and all consitutional protections are granted residents of territories.

Mir argues that since Hawaii was not a state at the time of the Pearl Harbor attack, that the attack was not on "America" and was just another sea battle in the Pacific conflict of WWII.

Here is the thread if you have any interest in seeing the debate.

So, answer the poll, let's see how it comes out.

this is the dumbest shit I have seen...

Tell us Mir...

If they were not attacking Americans, who the fuck were they attacking?

I suppose Kwajalein and Wake dont count either....

Considering that the attack was NOT on the harbor itself, but rather on AMERICAN ships located in the harbor.....

Pretty much a no-brainer.

I think you don't know your history if you don't realize that the attack on Pearl Harbor was indeed an attack on the U.S.

It's obvious to most of us here that MIR doesn't have a clue what he is debating.

This is the exact reason I choose to ignore almost all Mir's post.
Let me guess he has a conspiracy theory on how the Japanese pilots also 'flew by wire' , and were not actually kamikaze pilots

fucking useless

How the hell is a naval base and a ton of moored navy ships not an american target?

Mir is full of it.
As a vet of 24 years, it's an insult to all the vets that served or lost thier lives
in the attack on American forces in Hawaii. Japan got there just rewards.

My understanding is an attack on a US warship(s) is an act of war. So therego also an attack on US warships = attack on america.

So was the Cole bombing, but no one acted at the time, but that IMO should have been an act of war also.

Mir, sorry, but I think you are going to loose this one.

I am saying there was no attack on US soil.
For example Like Germany had or Korea had or Iraq or UK. Nobody has came to US soil and attacked on US.
That was just coward attack; like FLy by ricer deal ;)

It was my understanding that all US military bases are US soil, regardless of their actual location. i.e. a base right now is Okinawa is American soil, even though it's in Japan. That being said, the air base on Hawaii that was attacked at the same time as the war ships would be considered an attack on American soil.

Of course the attack on Pearl Harbor was an attack on the US.

Now, let's make something clear here: The Japanese did not attack Hawaii. They did not attack the cities of Hawaii, the towns of Hawaii, or the area around Pearl Harbor. They didn't attack the water of Pearl Harbor, the sand, the people of Hawaii. They attacked US warships that were berthed there. The reason why the Japanese did that? It was pre-emptive, to disable the US Navy's Pacific Fleet, so that Japan could attempt to control the Pacific Ocean.

Japan is an island. Islands are susceptible to one main thing: Ocean blockade. If the US was involved in the war against the axis nations (Italy, Japan, and Germany), the easiest thing the US would have done was deny all gas, food, and supplies to Japan by stationing warships outside their island. The Japanese figured (correctly) that with the current state of the US Navy, they would lose a heads-up battle big time. Their only option was to do a massive surprise attack, destroy everything they could, and then have free-reign in the Pacific. So, they attacked the base at Pearl Harbor. They didn't attack Pearl Harbor, they attacked the base, and any attack on US military property by a foreign power is considered an act of war. Anyone who says otherwise is an idiot.

Now, for proof that this was a pre-emptive attack on the US military, I point out that in four years time, the US was able to defeat the Japanese at sea. That was after salvaging what ships they could at Pearl Harbor, and cranking out new ships like a car factory. If the US could rebuild a fleet fast enough to catch up, then kick the shit out of, the Japanese, imagine what the US could have done without the Pearl Harbor attack.
