View Full Version : Heh, Fast and Furious: Toyko Drift
Alright, I went and saw this movie last night/this morning...why? Because it was free, a private screening, and my friends and I got to trash it for the entire hour and a half running time.
Anyways, I'm sure most of you don't care if I totally ruin the ending, but it puts the rotarheads into perspective. At the end of the movie, the main kid swaps a Japanese motor (of the Nissan variety, not sure...looked like an RB26DET, but I don't know) into a first gen mustang. I wassssss pissed off, lol. He even had the ricer exhaust!
Then I kinda laughed and now understand why the rotorheads are pissed off at us (V8 RX7 guys). But at least we get something they rarely have...torque! :yeah:

Yeah, there is an article about the cars that were built for the movie in Hot Rod... That Monte Carlo is badazz. It has a 500+ cubic inched chevy big block, and some serious suspension work to make it handle. They really ruin alot of cars for these movies too bad... :yup:

We need to get together and make the "Real fast and furious" with real cars and tell the true story. We could make loads of $$, and piss off the spike haired shit kids at the same time :yeah:

I can't believe this, but some of my friends saw it last night and said that it was damn good.
They said that it has very little to do with the first two movies, and "Tokyo Drift" would have been a more appropriate name than "F&F: TD"
I am still not wanting to see it, but they went on and on about how it was actually a pretty good movie. WTF?

Best movie ever.
Oh, and I remembered the name of the motor at work today..it was an SR20DET! Not a Skyline motor....and yes, supposedly over 100 cars were destroyed in the filmingprocess.

actually the motor in the mustang is a rb25det....from the skyline...friend has researched it alot. also the movie was surprisingly good...not great or oscar quality but good. the best was when the one asian says to rednbeck boy, "ur working for me now, u think imma let u drive around in a hyundia."
i went with the dfwhyundias crew...very funny.
the one liners werent so funny, the action wasnt true drift sport, but street racing style, and all in all a good setup...for all interested in bow wow's car...the green nasty thing started life as a honda fit, not as a scion xb as jarret from rkc thought for those that know him.
just my 2cents

I realize this is my first post, but no...the motor is a Neo Rb26dett you can tell by the 2 bubbles on the valve cover.
And my 2 cents...movie wasnt awesome, but it was entertaining. me being someone that actually drifts, and have have a root in Nissans (F.E. i have a 2 240sx's...one with an SR20det, and one with a 400whp Ka24De, and a 83 Rx7 that i transplanted a KA24de into, and im in the process of making a 500whp monster) so i do know my nissans...
Btw the SR20det came from a 180sx...not a 240sx...

The SR20DET was a stock option for 240sx. When swapping the SR20DET into a S-12, we got the motor from a S-13, which is a 240sx (Silvia).
I don't know if it came in the 180sx or not, but it is a 240sx motor.
Too many damn numbers/letters being thrown around!
SR20DET!
Damnit! You sunk my battleship! RB25DETT!!
HIT!

Hmmm....
*looks around at fellow swappers and hot rodders...*
*wonders if any of them really give a shit about EXACTLY which model Nissan engine was put into a mustang in a Fast&Furious movie...*
*finds it funny that someone registered JUST to inform us.*
For what it's worth; thanks for setting us straight. Honestly though, I'm still confused. It's originally a twin turbo I6 of some manner, correct? If they just HAVE to have a 6 cylinder, they could have used a Supra, GN, Skyline, M3, G35....motor for all I care.

Silvias and 180sx's started with 1.8 liter turbo motors and NA motors (CA18DET and CA18DE). Later they changed to the 2.0 liter turbo and NA motors (SR20DET and SR20DE).
US Models (240sx)came with the KA 2.4 liter 155hp POS motor.
We are all car folks regardless of what country you are from. You build what you have. V8s are everywhere in the US. Turbo motors are everywhere in Japan. Mostly because you car tax depends on the size of the engine, hence the turbo charger on lots of engines in Japan.
Sorry I know all you guys dont care..... ;)

Great... now all the ricers will be imitating this movie. I can't wait to see them e-brake "drift" around a corner in their Honda Civic!
This movie will probably only add to the "Ricer Inflation" on the cost of a nice FC or FD rx7 body.

For us with no autoshops, it does not help much, but already a friend of mine who owns one is jumping into the drifting bandwagon. That is the way it is here in El Paso, every time a car movie comes out, ricers do the same shit that the movie did to their cars.
I guess it does help the import parts industry in a way. Believe it or not, LMAO, the first F&F movie spiked my interest in automotive industry. **puts his flame retardant suit and a big ass layer of flame retardant jelly***

Everyone always does the exact same thing with movies
Everyone thinks they are a kung fu master after watching a Jet Li movie
Everyone wants to order a martini "shaken not stired" after seeing a bond movie
Everyone wants to be the uber cool racer after watcing a Fast & The Furious
this will never change no matter what the movie is about. These were never intended to entertain the hardcore auto enthusiests just like a Jet Li movie isnt for the hardcore martial artists.
Its just entertainment.... ricers have known about drifting for a year or two.. its not as "underground" as people think it is.
