T.O. Suspended For Remainder Of Season
POSTED: 2:32 pm CST November 7, 2005
PHILADELPHIA -- Terrell Owens controversial career with the Eagles is over. Coach Andy Reid has just announced the team will not use Owens for the rest of the season.
Owens has filed a grievance witht he players' union but T.O. has played his last game for the Eagles.
Reid called Owens at about 2:30 p.m. and told him of the team's decision, and that Owens was upset.
Officially, Owens was suspended for four games and then told by Reid that we would not be activated for the rest of the season.
Owens is still believed to be at his mansion in Moorestown, N.J.
Reid read a prepared statement at the press conference and said he couldn't take direct questions because of the union greviance. But he did characterize Owens' Eagles career with the following statement: "It's been interesting."
In the statement, Reid said:
"Terrell Owens has been suspended by the team for four games for conduct detrimental to the team. He will not be returning to play for the team, even after the conclusion of that suspension.
"The league has been notified by the players' union that they will be grieving our right to take that action, therefore there is nothing more I can say at this point.
"I do want it to be clear that this decision is the result of a large number of situations that accumulated over a long period of time during which Terrell had been warned repeatedly about the consequences of his actions.
"Even with the activities that took place last week, we gave Terrell every opportunity to avoid this outcome."
Last night, Washington Redskins took advantage of a suspended Owens to beat the Philadelphia Eagles 17-10 at FedEx Field.
Owens, who has been embattled in a contract dispute all season, was suspended Saturday by the Eagles for an indefinite period for conduct detrimental to the team.
The Owens fiasco has affected the Eagles and has caused a throng of media attention to a team already in turmoil.
Owens made critical comments of the organization and against McNabb. Hugh Douglas, who was released by the Eagles before the season began but has remained with the club as an ambassador, said he was recently involved in a locker-room fight with Owens.
"It is tough losing a guy of his caliber, his ability, but I think we might be better off," McNabb said of Owens. "We played as a team. Nothing against him and his attitude. When you get out there in the football stands and get out there in the field, it's all about playing together. Guys played well together. Unfortunately we didn't win this game, but it may be a stepping stone for us to move forward."
"What's going on, it's unfortunate some of our players who are trying to make such an impact have to go through this," McNabb said of the Owens situation.
