View Full Version : Should I just get a new oil pump and be done with it?

Ok so at first the car was stuttering and oil pressure was fluttering. Replaced the o2 sensor.. car runs great. No stuttering BUT.. at idle.. the oil pressure still flutters. Never drops below the middle line but it holds normal while driving. Scott mentioned something about back flow maybe? Now today I noticed that while I was driving, if I tapped the brakes or started slowing down for a stop, the needle really flutters hard. What in the hell is causing this?? Could this be a sign of bad things to come? remember, I keep normal pressure no flutter when I'm giving it gas. Should I just replace the pump??

Thanks!
Trista

I would change the sending unit first, make sure it's not a gauge issue before ripping the pump... but if that doens't solve it, yeah, I'd swap the pump.

'99 W/ Stock Pump + The abuse the 30Bird has seen on the track + sorta crappy LS1 stock pumps anyways = Might be smart to change it either way.

If you change the pump do a cam swap also. You dont have to do a big cam. Look into the cam scott has. No sence in going in there to do a pump swap if your not going to swap the cam also.

my .02. Annie up and do the pump. I've been there and with all the problems the 99's had it will be insurance that the pump won't cause about 3k worth of rebuild costs. It's a little trouble to change it, but peace of mind in my book.
