Hi,

Since im basically new here I would like to start off saying I drive a 98 Cobra and I need some serious help with Traction and or Tires. I currently have BFG Comp TA tires and they suck big time. I currently run 245/40/17. They also have about half tread remaining. Im not sure why tho since I think they are awesome on my 95GT.

Anyways starting off from a dead stop they just suck and when I shift into 2nd gear my whole back end just gets silly.

So is there something I can do for traction other than tires?

What recommendations does everyone have on new tires? I will need 275/40/17 and I dont want to break the bank when I buy new tires.
I want some that will at least last a while and give me optimal traction gains.

Thank You,

Snooze

How about if I wait six weeks to call. I could tell her I found her number while I was cleaning out my wallet, I can't remember where we met. I'll ask her what she looks like and then I'll ask her if we fucked. How about that? Would that be money?

Hey Snooze, if you are looking for some Nitto Drag Radials, give Joey Corpion a call at (972)432-8778. It's on MacArthur just north of 635. He's a cool guy and drives a 93 cobra. Also if you are looking for more traction, I'd go with some control arms. I have the HP Megabite Jr.s for lowers, and the Unlimited Performance fully adjustable uppers, and they kick ass.

Control Arms + Drag Radials = Beating LS1's out of the hole like a sumbitch... http://www.torquecentral.com/tc_forum/biggrin.gif

Sorry Bunkle Matt, you said you had the wrong uppers. I corrected it for you. Plus I wanted to try out this moderator stuff and see if it actually worked. http://www.torquecentral.com/tc_forum/biggrin.gif

Thank you for the suggestions all.

Now the Nittos how many miles would I get out of those tires?

And the control arms exactly what do they do and how much would they cost and how much would they cost to install.

Thanx

Nittos seem to last a decent ammount of time in comparison to other "drag radial" types. I put close to 10000 miles on a set of 17" Nitto DR's. And traded them to a friend, who used them for a while. Don't expect them too last too long doing burnouts and launches all the time tho. http://www.torquecentral.com/tc_forum/biggrin.gif

And for Control arms... Well, they change the way the car tranfers weight. Instead of squatting like normal, they push the tires into the pavement, and the body looks like it's lifting up. This is also why people call them lift bars. All in all, they help the car put the power to the ground. Suspension parts can turn a 14 second car into a 13 second car, with no other mods. Even tho that is a 14.1, 14.2 car to a 13.9, 13.8 http://www.torquecentral.com/tc_forum/biggrin.gif

Also check out this, it's from Stung on www.dfwstangs.net, (http://www.dfwstangs.net,) he's pretty damn smart, when it comes to suspension that is http://www.torquecentral.com/tc_forum/biggrin.gif

The first area is the lower control arms. The control arms set the fore-aft location of the axle. Max M/S has some arms that most people call reverse GlobalWest arms. The spherical bushing is in the axle bracket rather than the torque boxes. According to those test results i posted this is one of the least binding arms. They also allow for a better ride in the NVH department over the GW arms. I had the GW arms and got sick and tired of the popping and increased noise that the GW's brought into the cabin. When I went back to rubber bushings like in the IPS i really noticed it again. It got much quieter. The Max M/S arms have a poly bushing with three types degrees of hardness. This allows for a compliant ride yet isn't mushey like the stock bushings.

anything else?
