I'm getting ready to install a 5.0/AOD combination into my 1989 RX7. The 5.0 is from a 1989 Crown Vic. Unfortunately, the wiring harness does not look like any other harness I have seen. It has three realys on the left fender (fuel pump, AC wide open throttle and EEC supply, I think) and about three vaccum/12volt smog solenoids on the right fender. These are part of the engine wiring harness.
Does anyone know where I can find a good wiring diagram for a 1989 Crown Vic?
I have traced most of the wires and have figured out quite a few of them. The following list is what I think applies:

yellow-12 volt all the time
red- 12 volt when key in run
red/blue- 12 volt when key in start
red/light green-12 volt when key in run
black-ground
black/light green-also ground
black/light blue-groundn (only when key in start?)
pink/black-fuel pump safety switch to fule pump
tan/light green-fuel pump relay
orange/light blue-AC wide open throttle relay
Gray/yellow-12 volt in both run and start
black/purple-reverse switch
purple/red-reverse switch
white/red going into tranny, neutral safety switch-12 volt when key in start

Still confused about:
Black/orange-12 volt or ground?
Light green/black
orange
pink
light green
yellow/black
light blue/black
gray/black
tan/red
dark green/white
purple
black/white
white/red
red/yellow
and any other wire colors that may be standard on a Ford.

Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I thought someone might know the answers your looking for, but I guess not. I would say try a ford dealer and talk to the shop foreman. You might also try a search for a crownvic web site. I bet someone there could tell you. If I find one I will post it for you.

Sorry I wasnt much help!!

I was checking my Ford service dvd, but it doesn't go back that far for that model year. :( I sent an email to a friend of mine that is an engineer at Ford to see if he has any diagrams he can send me. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for your effort! I have searched for Crown Vic sites. there are several but none with good/any wiring diagrams. My guess is Crown Vic drivers don't mod their cars as often as Mustang drivers.
I have a good book on Thunderbird/Cougars for the same year but the EEC used different pins. The sixty pins in the EEC do not match the 60 pins in my harness. Also, the connectore look different.
So...I guess it's back to the ohm meter and tracing wires.

Ive got the same problem, looks like the same setup that you described only my donar is an efi 5.0 and aod from an 86 grand marquise. Id love to have the schematics on that if anyone can come up with those. I have come up with excactly zero.

Back/orange is not a ground. It is 12 volt always on
tan/red is check engine light (needed to pass smog and get codes)
orange appears to run fuel pump (thick gauge wire)
black/white ground (I think)
white/red oil pressure?
red/white coolant temp?

There is a green 8 pin connector in the drivers side kick panel. Is this a test connector? Or is it supposed to connect to something?

Does any one know if the '89 Crown Vic had a barometric pressure sensor and where it is located?

There is a blue box about 2 1/2 by 3 inches in the passenger kick panel. It is marked"down" with an arrow. The fuel gauge is fed through it along with several more wires (mostly black and yellow). Is this the fuel cut off switch in case of accidents?

Still tracing wires. I think I have enough figured out to go ahead and install the engine.

Thanks again for any help.

I have the 86 model and its an eec-iv system, I think your 89 is still the eec-iv. I picked up some computerized engine control manuals and if you do have the eec-iv then yes you do have a barometric Pressure sensor (BAP). The manual I have is a ford tech training manual and it has some good diagrams. Ill scan them this weekend and put them up.

Yes, mine is an EEC-IV. I have a good schematic for an '89 Thunderbird but the pins on the EEC are not the same and the harnesses look different.
I think I ofound my Barometric Pressure Sensor. When I was taking it out of the car I thought it was a vacuum switch. It was mounted on the firewall above the engine. All the info I have shows the BAP inside the car.
Any help on wiring is greatly appreciated. I don't want to ruin the EEC by hooking up something wrong.
The engine/tranny are now in the car. I need a driveshaft (will have a custom one made). Hook up fuel, cooling and electric and it should run. I'll probably need to install a custom hole in the hood for clearance.

Sweet, the book says bap "this sensor is mounted on the right inner fender and measures barometric pressure of atmospheric air. Variations in atmospheric pressure are converted to electrical signals and sent to the eca. the eca uses this signal to calculate correct fuel flow for altitude compenstation."

For what its worth heres the ford manual schematic. It is identical to my eeciv, hope it helps.

Once again, it is not quite the same as mine (not all pins and wire colors match, those that did were quite helpful) . The more diagrams I see, the more confident I get that I am finding the right wires.
It may be awhile before I get to hooking up the electronics. This is a backburner project.
Thank you again for your help! This is by far the best and easiest to understand diagram I have seen.

Looking a little closer at the diagram I see a couple wires missing. I see where it gets a constant 12v supply. But I believe the EEC also needs 12v run and 12v crank. Do you have a diagram that lists these wires, colors and pin numbers?

Okay, so now I feel like a total idiot. I guess wire colors mean nothing to Ford. In Porsches wire colors are very important (even year to year and model to model). I guess an EEC IV is generic for model and year. The Mazda EEC was very specific to model and year (including turbo or non-turbo). Now with my excuses out of the way, I was comparing my wire harness to all the schematics I have. My harness actually looked closer to the '89 V6 (although not exact). I started comparing pin numbers (ignoring wire colors) and discovered the pins always do the same thing. The V6 was the same as the V8. The Multi-point injection was the same as the throttle body injection. Some pins are used for one engine and not used for another. But the pins on the EEC are all the same. It might even be possible to use a V6 EEC IV to run a V8.
Any way here is what the pins do:
1. 12v continuous
2. unused
3. sensor signal to amplifier
4. electronic switch to ignition coil (negative terminal)
5. EEC power relay and ignition coil positive
6. sensor signal return
7. engine coolant temp sensor
8. fuel pump safety switch to fuel pump motor
9. mass air flow return
10. A/C control relay feed
11. EEC module to charcoal canister purge solenoid (or thermactor air diverter solenoid)
12. fuel injector #6
13. fuel injector #7
14. fuel injector #8
15. fuel injector #5
16. crankshaft sensor signal return (thick film ignition)
17. EEC module to test connector #2
18. to test connector left fender (-) data
19. to test connector left fender (+) data
20. ground
21. EEC to throttle actuator (idle speed motor)
22. fuel pump relay ground
23. knock sensor
24. cam sensor to EEC ?
25. air temp sensor feed
26. sensor signal feed (powers several smog sensors)
27. EGR valve position feed
28. idle speed motor
29. HEGO sensor (left)
30. starter control
31. thermactor air bypass feed
32. accelerator/decelerator sensor
33. EGR valve to EEC
34. EEC to time meter
35. fuel injector #4
36. tach feed to TFI
37. EEC power relay to EEC (12v switched)
38. unused
39. fuel injector #3
40. EEC battery ground
41. idle speed motor
42. unused
43. HEGO sensor (right)
44. HEGO sensor (right)
45. barometric pressure sensor feed (manifold absolute pressure)
46. sensor signal return (from several smog controls)
47. throttle angle position sensor feed
48. EEC to test connector #1
49. HEGO sensor (left)
50. mass air flow
51. thermactor air bypass solenoid
52. EGR control solenoid
53. EEC to upshift lamp
54. wide open throttle A/C cut out switch
55. exhaust heat control solenoid
56. crankshaft position sensor feed (thick film ignition)
57. EEC power relay to EEC and other sensors (12v switched)
58. fuel injector #1 cylinder
59. fuel injector #2
60. battery ground

Hooking it all up should be a lot easier now.
Dr. Hengle, thank you for all your help. Did you know that the schematic you provided is for a throttle body injection? Is your High Output 5.0 throttle body?
The small blue box turned out to be the low fuel warning light sensor. When I took the piece of foam tape off of it getting ready to take it apart, there were the words "Low fuel warning". The fuel cut for a severe wreck must have been in trunk. I never found it.
Thanks to everybody again.
